The book is clearly showing how the women were finding themselves in situations that they are not familiar with because of what Moss who is close to them was doing. Women have to keep secrets to protect their husbands and avoid causing damage to the husband. Some of them end up facing serious consequence as a result of protecting the people who is close to them. In the novel, we can see that women have the strong will of fighting for what they think is good for them and the people around them. The women are also able to endure the challenges that come with what the people around them do to make them happy. We are going to look at the various characters and the role they were playing in the novel. Carla Jean Moss is one character that is strong and innocent who is a young lady and wife to the Llewellyn, who is caught up in the middle of events that she does not understand what is happening. After realizing that she is in a place that is threatening her life she tries to reach the authority Sheriff Bell regarding the meeting that she was going to encounter with Moss. She was planning to put an end to everything that was taking place. We clearly see how she is being entangled in the events that she does not understand whereby Anton asks Moss to bring the satchel, or he is going to kill Carla. Carter was an innocent person but because of her relationship with Moss, she is being used as a trap. Carlar also uses her instinct as a woman to warn her husband by telling him that she has a bad feeling regarding the money he has stolen. Although Moss ignores her, she had made her point. It was not long before people started chasing Moss. Agnes Kracik is the mother to Carla Jeans, and she is a woman of strong will. Besides her suffering from cancer, she is willing to provide the relevant support for her daughter who is going through a tough time. We see her going through a lot of pain and suffering with her cancer, but she has to be strong for her family. We can see her and her daughter discussing the packed drugs because they could not trace where the drugs were at that particular time. At the station, we can also see a person taking advantage of her by pretending to be a good person but he only wanted information concerning the place they were going to stay. Through those simple words from her mouth, she did not know it was going to cause a lot of damage to their lives. The person who was taking to her was a spy and needed the information so that he can trace where they are going to spend their time. From that point, we can see how her condition continues to deteriorate until she succumbs to cancer. Although she wa s strong as a woman, at the end of it all, there was nothing that the rest could rescue the situation, and now Jean was alone to face the world. Loretta Bell is the caring and loving wife to the Sheriff Bell. She is caring in the sense that, when the husband wakes up, she is there to make him breakfast and ask how the night was. Although sometimes the sheriff could have bad dreams, Loretta was there to comfort him. We can see from the conversation that Loretta was having with the husband whereby it was Loretta who was asking the husband to take care and be careful while in the line of duty.
