Business Ethics Citizenship and Sustainability
Question: Discuss about the Business Ethics for Citizenship and Sustainability. Answer: Introduction: The modern market depends on the rules and laws, which in turn depend on the truth and the trust factor. If truth is concealed and trust is gone then the market will collapse with the share prices falling where the ordinary people have invested their hard-earned money. The people at that point will rely on the governments for the wealth creation, which they are very bad at handling. The heads of the companies nowadays do not look after their consumers, shareholders or their employees, as they are busy with their ambitions and to gain financially from the profits that the companies make. The European society looks down at the Americans still now but they admire their attitude towards work (Handy, 2002). Paul Polman, the CEO of Unilever since 2009 has taken up an ambitious plan to improve the health of around billion people by 2020. He also claimed that by 2020 the nutritional standards in the food products would be doubled with minimum wastage of water and waste disposal techniques (I gnatius, 2012). This topic is important because business ethics gives a competitive advantage to the companies that follow the ethical policies. It also improves the performance of the employees, as they feel motivated towards the work. It helps the company to build up the reputation, which helps in selling their goods and services faster than other companies sell. The legal bodies provide strong financial support to the companies that follow the ethical standards in business (Crane and Matten 2016). I was working with Accenture a few months back where I noticed that the company would take care of all the employees that worked there. The goals of the company were set before hand keeping in mind the ability of each employee. Few employees had a lesser target than the others had, as they were new to company and lacked the expertise, which will develop over a period. The managers would interact with the employees and listen to each query the employees would have and would recommend an alternative so that they would not become bored with the work.
